- Beautiful Arusha National Park
- Great Leaders And Fully Portered
Kilimanjaro stands majestically in the African plains and watches over the beautiful National Parks that include Arusha and The Serengeti and it is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the World; and what is more you can trek to the top! There are quite a few routes to the summit, but we feel there are two route options that will give you the most enjoyment and both are very different. Choose either the beautiful and slightly more demanding Machame Route, or the quieter and remote Rongai Route. Please note we can if you would prefer, we can offer any of the routes to the Summit that include; Umbwe (with extra day), Marangu (Huts), Lemosho Glades or Western Breach (latter requires experience and special permits).
Kilimanjaro (5895m) is not a difficult trek but it is demanding and you should be fairly fit to ensure you enjoy the trek. This is Africa at its best and most beautiful, to wake up and look across the Serengeti or views of the spectacular Mountain is a wonderful experience, the sounds of the Wildlife coupled with the scenery and this amazing trek will ensure a truly memorable journey. Unlike many operators we include an extra day (7 days) trekking on Kilimanjaro to aid acclimatisation and give you a better chance of successfully summitting. You may also like to combine the Kilimanjaro trek with an 3-4 day acclimatisation trek of nearby Mt Meru (4566m). Many tour operators show this trek as just needed acclimatisation, but Meru is far more than that, in fact it is a beautiful trip on its own!! Trekking on Meru starts with a journey and walk through the Arusha National Park, where you can see Zebra, Warthog, Elephant, Giraffe, Baboons, Buffallo to name but a few, and this is truly a Safari Trek. You gain altitude relatively slowly meandering up through the jungle on good paths and you stay overnight in very good huts; where you can enjoy views over the Park at dawn or dusk and hear the wildlife of Africa. Again, you do need to be fairly fit to enjoy this trek and summit day is demanding. However, if you don't wish to summit Mt Meru, you can on the main summit day just trek and summit to Little Meru (3800m) and/or Rhino Point (3800m) which offers spectacular views over the National Park towards Kilimanjaro. Have a look at the options below and please do give us a call to discuss in more detail.
Twendai! . . . Swahili for Let’s Go!
Kilimanjaro - 10 days
Based on either the Machame or Rongai routes (please call for other routes). The Rongai Route
is on the North side of the Mountain, close to the Kenyan border and is perhaps the easiest and remotest of the camping routes. It has a gentle
gradient and shorter daily stages that aid
acclimatisation and you may camp beneath the beautiful Mawenzi Tarn. The Machame Route
is one of the most beautiful but is slightly more demanding as there are many up and down stages as well as the obvious altitude gain. Having said that as we add in the extra day you have a greater chance of summitting and the trek is not technical but days are longer on the Machame Route. It seems many people who take either of these routes do succesfully summit or at least get to the crater rim, just over 5000m.
Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru - 13 Days
A
fantastic trek to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain combined with
an initial wonderful three to four day ascent of nearby Mt Meru which provides a
great introduction and acclimatisation to the trek and the opportunity
to see plenty of wildlife. We use The Machame Route on Kilimanjaro. If you would like to just trek Mt Meru please give us a call to discuss the options.
